Report: Out-of-favour Chelsea player agree three-year contract extension ahead of loan exit

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has agreed to extend his contract with the Blues until 2024 ahead of his expectedly imminent loan move to AC Milan, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Having been left out without a squad number at Chelsea, it was pretty clear that the 27-year-old is not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans this season.

Interestingly, despite uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have also struggled to find interested parties that would sign him on a permanent transfer.

A few Serie A clubs, including Milan, have shown interest in the midfielder but have been only prepared to negotiate potential loan deals.

The problem was that Bakayoko’s initial contract at Chelsea, which he signed back in 2017, would expire in 2022.

Allowing him to leave on loan and potentially losing him on a free transfer next summer were always financially unrealistic.

To work around this issue, Bakayoko has agreed a three-year extension deal with Chelsea, Sky Sport Italia claims, which would allow him to join Milan on loan.

The report added that Bakayoko would return to San Siro on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy at €15million (£12.8m).

The Frenchman himself has arrived in Milan on Saturday and been filmed at La Madonnina clinic centre for a medical this morning.
